How Do Thermal Actuators Work in Underfloor Heating Systems?
An electric thermal actuator is a mechanical device that converts heat energy into linear mechanical motion. The electric thermal actuator is usually installed on the manifold and is used to control to open or close valves for individual circuits/loop, thus controlling the flow of water. The internal material of the electric thermal actuator is paraffin wax, which has the characteristics of thermal expansion. The electric thermal actuator is controlled by the room thermostat. When the room thermostat detects that the room temperature is lower than the set temperature, it sends a signal to the electric thermal actuator. The paraffin wax in the electric thermal actuator is heated and expanded to push its piston out, so that the valve stem of the valve moves to open the valve. After the valve is open, hot water flows through the corresponding circuit/loop to heat the room, and the room slowly heats up until the set ideal temperature is reached.
